About
Cinema Sala is a nonprofit dedicated to cultivating and supporting cinematic and artistic work that expands cultural understanding and creative exchange. With a focus on stories from the Philippines and its global diaspora, it puts on forever-free, accessible screenings, educational programs and community events that connect emerging storytellers, foster talent and build audiences around the world. "Sala" is the Filipino word for living room. In 2016, Marie Jamora and Jason McLagan started inviting filmmakers into theirs to share short work from across the Philippine diaspora. The nights outgrew the apartment within half a year, and Visual Communications offered its own sala in Little Tokyo, where Cinema Sala has grown into feature screenings, master classes and live performances. Every program is free and open to all ages, with no membership fee.
